Writer Eudora Welty Dead at 92

She won the Pulitzer Prize for "The Ponder Heart and "The Optimist's Daughter." She was a wise, meticulous writer whose loving depictions of small-town Mississippi brought her international acclaim. She was acclaimed for heart-wrenching photographs of poverty in Depression Era Mississippi.
She died at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. A spokesman said she had been battling pneumonia.
