Three Marines Injured in `Burn Pit' Explosion

JUDY WOODRUFF, CNN ANCHOR: This item just in from CNN's Pentagon correspondent, Barbara Starr: Three Marines were hurt earlier today in Afghanistan at the Kandahar area when they were near what is called a burn pit, where trash was being burned and an unknown item exploded.

We are told that the three Marines, who are with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, all of them received non-life threatening injuries, but they were transported to the base medical facility for immediate medical care and treatment. The Marines are expected to be transported and taken to a higher-level treatment facility for follow- on care. We don't have their names. Their families are being notified.

Again, three Marines injured this morning at 7:00 Eastern time, which was about 10 hours ago, injured when some unknown item exploded in a burn pit, where items were being burned for trash. And the three were injured, but, again, the injuries were not life-threatening.
