Bank Robbed in Garland, Texas

BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Now, getting word of what is described right now as a bank robbery in Garland, Texas. Steve Knagg, a gentleman from the Public Information Office there in Garland, Texas by telephone. Steve, can you hear me OK?

STEVE KNAGG, PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE, GARLAND, TEXAS: Yes, I can.

HEMMER: I do not have much information on this, what do you have?

KNAGG: We had a bank robbery here in town. Three of the suspects were chased by police over by one of our elementary schools. They crashed their car and escaped on foot. Two of the robbers are in custody. There's one robber who is in an ally a few blocks north of the school who's wounded and holding a gun to his head.

HEMMER: And you have police surrounding him? We're looking at some videotape right now -- I'm not sure if you can see our signal -- but if you can, explain to us what's happening here.

KNAGG: The police have locked down the entire neighborhood. We have locked down three schools that are in that neighborhood. And from what we've heard on our scanner, they're negotiating with the man, trying to get him to give himself up.

HEMMER: Schools are, elementary? High school? Middle school? What, Steve?

KNAGG: Three elementary schools. (UNINTELLIGIBLE) elementary, Coldwell (ph) elementary and Southgate (ph) elementary are in lockdown mode at this time.

HEMMER: And the students right now, they're in their classrooms, this is a drill they practiced before, is that right?

KNAGG: Absolutely. We have -- not only do we have the schools locked down, we have officers on each campus, and we will stay in lockdown mode, obviously, until the police give us the all clear.

HEMMER: And how many men at this point again?

KNAGG: We've heard that there were three, three bank robbers who were in this car. We've also heard reports that there may have been another car that escaped in different direction, but I'm not sure on that.

HEMMER: Demands being made? Is there any communication with them right now, Steve?

KNAGG: We don't have any information about that at all.
