Shooting Inside Milwaukee Courtroom Leaves One Dead

CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: I want to bring you some breaking news out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin where, during the FBI director's news conference, a shooting took place in the county courthouse inside of Milwaukee. There you're looking at a live picture of the exterior of the courthouse.

This is what we know about what happened inside. Apparently, just as a defendant was found guilty of murder, apparently this defendant grabbed the courtroom bailiff's revolver and then this unidentified 20-year-old leaped across the defense table, snatching the weapon, firing it into the bailiff's abdomen or groin. The bailiff's wound, fortunately, was not considered life threatening.

But a police detective, possibly another bailiff -- we are still trying to nail down those details -- drew his weapon and shot the defendant dead. The shooting occurred in the Milwaukee County Safety Building which houses the courtrooms and it is right next to the police headquarters. So, it sounds like it's over for now but it is a developing situation.

So stay right there. As soon as we get more details, if they are critical, we will bring them to you. But it could be a frightening situation. A defendant found guilty of murder, grabbed the bailiff's gun and opened fire in the courtroom. He, however, was shot dead.
