DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: A couple of terrorism and justice updates to bring you up-to-date on, beginning with Zacarias Moussaoui. He is the man who is on trial as the accused extra hijacker in the September 11 -- co-conspirator. The judge -- the federal judge in the case has refused Moussaoui's request to have access to any sensitive aviation security information during his trial.

Also there is a request, you might remember, that Zacarias Moussaoui wants to represent himself, and he wants to fire his attorneys. Well, the judge in the case has also denied a request by those attorneys that an upcoming hearing on whether or not Moussaoui is competent and can represent himself, but that will not be held in private as they had requested.

Also a developing story that is just in to the CNN newsroom. French authorities have detained five people for questioning in a possible connection to the shoe bombing case. As you might remember, Richard Reid was subdued during a transatlantic flight in April. He had been trying to light a fuse connected to his shoe, which investigators later found was rigged with explosives.

According to counter-espionage officials, these five individuals are being asked specifically about their possible contacts with Reid during the time he stayed in Paris. They were all picked up in the Paris region.
