DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: We have another breaking news story that we've been following throughout the morning out of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, a multi-car pileup, we showed you the pictures earlier, and now we have a news conference giving us more information about, perhaps, what happened and the number of fatalities and injuries. Let's listen in.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This scene behind us appears to be strictly a southbound event. We did have a number of crashes that were northbound and we had another scene up a little north of here that was southbound too.
Those, like we stated before, though, they were not life threatening injuries, and that those scenes have been dealt with, and there has also been a large number of small, minor crashes that we've all dealt with and we've cleared them from the scene and allowed them to get on with their way.
QUESTION: I-43 (UNINTELLIGIBLE)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Correct.
QUESTION: What about coming south?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I-43 currently, right now, is closed north and southbound from Highway 32 in Sheboygan County to Highway D -- David, in Belgium (ph), in Ozaki (ph) County. That's roughly milepost 115 to milepost 107 on I-43.
Our bypass now is Highway 32 to County Highway double L, as in Lincoln, and then back to Highway D -- David and then back on to I-43.
We'll have officers around that to make sure that there's the minimal traffic conflict as possible, that it doesn't -- it's going to be an impact for the residents who live out there and for local businesses, but we're going to try and keep this as condensed as we can.
QUESTION: Can you talk about the water here, from the fire department, can you talk about why you have this water here?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The fire was so intense, the water that's on the trucks wasn't plentiful enough. We had a massive ball of fire, and we brought in tankers to -- obviously, we don't have hydrants out here.
QUESTION: How much help did you have out here? UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Approximately nine full extrication units, and ten full fire departments.
QUESTION: How are you personally dealing with this?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Pretty good right now. We have incident debriefing teams being assembled now from other counties and should be here within an hour.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Now, I do want to stress that this is a multi-agency event here, that no one person is in charge. We have a unified command here. Everybody in this scene here is working together.
KAGAN: All right. We've been listening into Sheboygan, Wisconsin officials talking about these pictures that we showed you earlier today. Just a horrific crash scene, this is about 60 miles north of Milwaukee. Looks clear there now, but very foggy conditions early this morning and this involved more than two dozen vehicles, as many of eight of them were on fire. We're getting word of at least one fatality and a number of injuries. The exact numbers haven't come in yet. We want to give you an update on the situation in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
