WOLF BLITZER, CNN ANCHOR: We're following a developing story in Kuwait City right now. Our Martin Savidge is standing by and joins us via videophone with late-breaking developments.
Marty, what's going on?
MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good evening to you, Wolf, from Kuwait City. The details about the story are a little bit on the bizarre side, to say the least. And it's not quite clear at this hour how severe the threat was against military personnel.
But let me back up and give you the facts as we know them coming from Kuwaiti sources. There was an arrest today of a teenager about the age of 17 in an area known as Sintaub (ph). That's about 15 miles to the south of the Kuwait City. He was arrested outside of two tall towers, the Allia (ph) and Gallia (ph) towers. This is a residential community that is known to house a number of U.S. military personnel.
When he was arrested, there was a vehicle with him. In the trunk, a number of explosives.
Where it gets a bit strange is how authorities uncovered the story. The young man is well known in the Sintaub (ph) area, goes bowling in that residential complex every single day. Security officers saw him today and said that he was acting strangely. They approached him, and the young man said he was frightened. They said, why? He said, he had received instructions over the Internet from Pakistan to come to these towers to locate a vehicle outside the towers, not his car, a different car, and there would be explosives inside used to bring the towers down.
Security officers didn't believe him at first, but then, they called police. When the police arrived, sure enough, the young man took them to a car. When they opened the trunk, inside, 10 molotov cocktails. Clearly, not enough to bring down two high-rise apartment buildings, but still, they could have posed a threat to any number of personnel.
The young man has been taken into custody and the whole matter is under further investigation.
Nobody was hurt -- Wolf.
BLITZER: Thank God nobody was hurt. Martin Savidge, reporting live from the scene in Kuwait City. Thanks, Marty, very much.
