CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Well, we have breaking news out of Germany to tell you about right now, out of Berlin, or near Berlin, I should say. A man armed with a pistol hijacked a bus in the northern German city of Bremen. It happened earlier this morning. We believe about 15 people are aboard that bus and are now hostages. The gunman apparently forced the driver to head southeast towards Hanover as police cars trailed the bus.
This is all according to German police. Three passengers, we understand, have been freed, or they managed somehow to escape the bus right at the start of the hijacking. The bus driver called the police soon after starting his trip at about 9:17 a.m., that's German time, to report the abduction. At least one hostage let go by the hijacker. But we believe that at least 14 passengers are still aboard that bus.
Police now have it stopped. They managed to create sort of a traffic jam to slow the bus down. It's not clear what the man on board wants. He hasn't made any specific demands except to say he wants some water and a cell phone.
Of course, we'll keep you posted on this story and we'll have much more for you later.
