RENAY SAN MIGUEL, CNN ANCHOR: I'm Renay San Miguel at the CNN Center in Atlanta. We want to bring you up to date on the latest developments in the Middle East, where Israeli helicopter gunships have fired at least two missiles at a Palestinian security installation this evening in Gaza City. Four people are dead. CNN has confirmed that two of the dead were members of the Hamas military wing.
The victims have been seated on a sand dune near a base that was believed to be for members of Force 17. That is the Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat's personal guard. The base is located near Arafat's office in Gaza City. Arafat has not spent a lot of time in that office for quite some time now. He spent most of his time over the last few months in Ramallah.
But two of those killed were seen to be wearing military fatigues. All of this happened following orders Sunday by Arafat security chief in Gaza to Palestinian security forces to stop militant groups from firing rocket and mortar attacks at Israeli towns and settlements. There were some rockets fired deep into Israeli territory, deeper than they have been in the past. It's a new generation of the Kassam 2 rocket, believed to have been fired from Palestinian territories.
But Palestinian authorities were told to crack down on those. Also, as we have been telling you all day long, some of the tunnels in Palestinian territory have been shut down by Palestinian authorities. We will have a live report from Gaza City at the top of the hour. So stay tuned to CNN.
