CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Again, in case you're just joining us, we do have breaking news out of Sarasota, and very sad news it is. The worst has been confirmed.
We're getting word that police in Sarasota have found the body of 11-year-old Carlie Brucia. Her body apparently was found behind a church off of I-75 in the Sarasota area. We do not know how she was killed. Of course, police are still on the scene there.
A suspect remains behind bars. He has not been charged with anything other -- Joseph Smith, you're seeing him right now. He's only been charged with a parole violation as of right now. But Carlie Brucia's stepfather came out earlier this morning and told reporters that police did find some sort of DNA in a station wagon that Smith was using.
We're going to have more information -- oh, we have that sound byte from Carlie Brucia's stepfather right now, so we're going to have you listen to that.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
STEVE KANSLER, CARLIE BRUCIA'S STEPFATHER: My understanding is, is that they did find some evidence in relations to Carlie that puts her in the car.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Have they...
KANSLER: They haven't said what it was, though.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: That was my next question, Steve. They have not told you what type of evidence.
KANSLER: No, no, they haven't. Whether it was hair, you know, we don't know -- fingerprints. But they are confident it was Carlie's DNA that puts her in the car.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
COSTELLO: And police in Sarasota have positively identified the man in that surveillance video at the carwash, where Carlie Brucia was abducted, as Joseph Smith. They said they have positive identification. He is some kind of car mechanic. That's why the uniform.
We're going to have much more information on this.
