Concert to Support U.S. Troops

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: We have to go to the Pentagon now. Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld is speaking.
DONALD RUMSFELD, SECY. OF DEFENSE: I was with the president this morning. We had a secure video with General Tom Franks. And in the course of it, I mentioned that I was going to come over here and be with Darryl Worley and his band and his team. And the president said, well, I know who that is, I'm a country music fan. He said I saw him down at Tampa, at CENTCOM. So not only does Darryl come to the Pentagon, he also went to Afghanistan, he went to CENTCOM, and he wrote that wonderful song "Have You Forgotten."
(APPLAUSE)
I'll bet you we can talk him into singing it sometime.

DARRYL WORLEY, SINGER: Thank you. Thank you.
RUMSFELD: It is a great pleasure for me to introduce and welcome to the Department of Defense a great supporter of the men and women in uniform, a person whose song that he wrote after he was in Afghanistan is at the top of the list. It's number one for the fourth straight week, and it ought to be.
WORLEY: Thank you.
RUMSFELD: Darryl, these are your fans, and I'm a fan, and Paul Wolfowitz is a fan, and I want to hear a word or two from Dick Myers. He's a fan as well -- chairman of the joint chiefs.
(APPLAUSE)
GEN. RICHARD MYERS, JOINT CHIEFS CHAIRMAN: I've talked to Darryl about this song, the one that's at the top of the charts right now, and I know where he got his inspiration. When he was in Afghanistan, in the Middle East, and he saw the troops, and how they were living, the conditions they lived in and so forth. I think that impressed him, the sacrifice that they're going through, but I think the thing that he probably brought back that's reflected in the song is the intangible piece, and that was the dedication and the professionalism, the steadfastness of our soldiers, sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen. that's I think what probably impressed Darryl most and probably inspired him to write this song. We've had this discussion before, and I this it's forever changed his outlook on America. So we have a great American patriot, and I can't wait to hear it! WORLEY: Thank you.

KAGAN: And there you have country music star Darryl Worley entertaining the folks at the Pentagon. The reason he was invited is not for the song that we just heard. I guess that was his warm-up.
LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Which was his song. He's got one that's at the top of charts.
KAGAN: That's called "Have You Forgotten." It's at the top of the charts, and it's a very pro-American, pro-military, pro-troops, addressing the people who are critics of the war, saying have you forgotten about all of the bad things that have happened, why America needs to go and fight. And that has rushed to top of the country charts. That wasn't the one we just heard.
