More Gold Bars Found in Iraq

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: This just in to CNN. More gold bars have been found in Iraq, worth possibly a quarter of a million dollars.
Jamie McIntyre at the Pentagon joins us now with the details. Good evening, Jamie.
JAMIE MCINTYRE, CNN SR. PENTAGON CORRESPONDENT: Good evening, Anderson.
You'll recall last week the United States found a significant stash of gold bars in a truck that apparently was going to try to sneak into Syria. That was in a border town right near Syria.
Now we're told that over the weekend some time, the exact day or time not disclosed, U.S. troops in northern Iraq have found another truck loaded with gold bars. They say they believe there are 999 gold bars in this truck; estimated value, if they are in fact gold, about a quarter of a billion dollars.
Now, one update to the story on Friday, originally that was reported as 2,000 bars of gold. After they actually counted them, they found that they were 1,175 bars. So not quite as big a haul on Friday. And they're still waiting for tests to determine purity and the actual value of the gold bars -- Anderson.
COOPER: Where's the gold now and what's going to happen to it?
MCINTYRE: It's in the custody of the U.S. military, and it will be added to all of the assets the U.S. military is recovering. And they hope to use that money to pay for the reconstruction of Iraq.
