ANDERSON COOPER: Tropical Storm Bill may have weakened a little bit. But it's still packing a solid punch, hitting the Louisiana coast with high winds, heavy rains and in some places more than a foot of rain.
For more on what people are having to deal with right now, we're joined by Jeremy Desel at CNN affiliate KHOU in Houma, Louisiana.
What's it look like, Jeremy?
JEREMY DESEL, KHOU CORRESPONDENT: Well, Anderson, I can tell you this. Highway 56 behind me here is the only way into or out of this southern section of Terrebonne Parish here in Louisiana.
And as you can see by the fact that I'm standing on the storm drain. this water is going nowhere fast. In fact, it's continuing to creep up a little bit more in this area.
We have a bayou on one side and a levy on the other side where everything sort of converges here. And as you can see, it's slow going on the roadways.
The good news is it hasn't rained hard here in this section of Louisiana for at least the last couple of hours.
But what residents who are staying here are concerned about is the fact that Hurricane Lily that came through this area last October, damaged the levy on this side. And right now they're trying to make some repairs there to make sure that that levy doesn't give way. If it did, all of this area would be in much more danger and under much more water than it is already is.
Otherwise, keeping their eyes on the sky and hoping that the rains stay subsided here in this area -- Anderson.
COOPER: That's a good hope indeed. Jeremy Desel, appreciate you joining us tonight. Thank you.
