DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: We turn now to the sexual assault case involving Kobe Bryant. Police in Eagle, Colorado, say that a man who is described as a sports fanatic has been arrested for making threats against Bryant's accuser.
Our Gary Tuchman is following this new development. He joins us now live from Eagle, Colorado.

Gary, very disturbing reports there from Eagle and from Iowa.

GARY TUCHMAN, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Well, that's right, Daryn.

Kobe Bryant's not expected in a Colorado court until October 9. But a man who allegedly threatened to kill his accuser will be in a Colorado court before then. His name is John Roche. John Roche is 22 years old. He's from the state of Iowa. He's expected in court here a week from Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.

The FBI says he made a phone call from a phone in Iowa to a voicemail machine here at the home of the alleged victim in Colorado. The FBI says he threatened to maim her and to kill her. He had an initial appearance in court yesterday in Iowa and will be here in Denver on September 2, Tuesday, for that arraignment. He faces the possibility of up to five years in prison.

Now, as you might expect, authorities are keeping a close eye on Kobe Bryant's accuser and her family, trying to keep them safe. They report a very unusual incident last week. According to the police here, the family says they went away from their home for about one hour. Their two dogs were on the lower level of their hose. When they came back home, the accuser's father says one of the dogs was locked up in an upstairs bathroom. Nothing was taken from the house, but authorities are investigating that also.

Now, we should, in about nine days from now, get court files that have been released by the judge. Just yesterday, the judge said he'd unseal some of the documents in this case. But the main documents -- an arrest warrant is rather innocuous. We know most of the information already from it. And we've already passed it along to you, the viewers. The arrest warrant affidavits, which have very specific information about the prosecution allegations, will remain sealed, according to this judge -- Daryn, back to you.

KAGAN: All right, Gary Tuchman, well, it looks like it could be a little bit of a rainy Eagle, Colorado, there this evening. Appreciate that report.
