Schwarzenegger Takes Campaign to Fresno

ANDERSON COOPER, ANCHOR: Well, we are 40 days away from the California gubernatorial recall election and Arnold Schwarzenegger has begun to offer a glimpse into his opinions on a variety of social issues, including abortion and homosexuality.
CNN's Dan Lothian joins us from a stop on the Schwarzenegger campaign trail in Fresno, California.
Dan, did Schwarzenegger outline any of his views on how to fix the budget crisis in California?
DAN LOTHIAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: He has yet to do that. As you know, what you were talking about yet on conservative radio he was talking about his social issues. But that key question about what he would do to fix this ailing economy here in California, he has not yet come out with any specifics.
Now, since this campaign began he has been spending much of his time down in southern California. This is the first time he has come up here to the Fresno area, which is a mostly agricultural area.
We are currently -- all these flies buzzing around me -- we are in a peach packing plant, where he just met with workers, took a tour and also spoke to the media here, just answering about three questions.
Before coming over here he was at an academy, the Edison Bethune Charter Academy, kindergarten through sixth grade, some 675 students there. Arnold Schwarzenegger telling them that it is important for them to stay off of drugs and to stay in school.
And he gave them an example of when he was child, how his mother would sit him down at the dinner table. He would have to read and if he messed up, she would hit him with a spoon. He said that was the old days; now we encourage kids with ice cream.
On the Democratic side, Governor Davis was at his office in Sacramento, talking about environmental issues but not campaigning on the recall issue. Lieutenant Governor Bustamante was out at a gas station. He was on the campaign trail talking about high gas prices.
